Hermann von Kaernten (also Hermann the Slav), lived during the first 
half of the 12th century; translated astronomical and mathematical 
texts from Arabic into Latin. Studied at Chartres and worked in 
Southern France and North Spain.

Translation of the Elements of Euclid and of the Planisphaerium 
by Ptolemaios (stereographical projection); first translation of the 
Koran into Latin (with Robert of Chester); astronomical and 
philosophical works.
