First documented mention around 1140 as "Hercindorf" or "Hercendorf" (1170). Hetzendorf Palace was built around 1694 under Count S. Thun as a hunting seat, from 1742 imperial property. After 1750 extensions by N. Pacassi, temporarily served as a residence to the Habsburgs; exhibition rooms with original decoration in the style of the late Rococo; in the vestibule ceiling fresco by D.
