Himalaya Society, Austrian, association for the promotion of Austrian 
scientific and mountaineering expeditions to mountains all over the 
world, to Greenland, the Antarctic, etc., founded 1953. Among its 
successful expeditions were those to the Gasherbrum II 
(8,035 m, Karakoram, 1956) and the Lhotse (8,511 m, 
Himalaya, 1979).
