Hinterbruehl, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Moedling,
alt. 254 m, pop. 4,150, area 16.94 km%%sup 2/%, day-trip
destination and residential area located in the narrow valley of the
Moedlingbach stream ("Bruehl"), in the southern Vienna Woods, west of
Moedling. Special therapeutic needs centre of the province of Lower
Austria, convalescent homes, residential home for young people,
SOS-Kinderdorf Wienerwald children's home, Seegrotte grotto with lake
(former gypsum mine, largest subterranean lake in Europe
(6,200 m%%sup 2/%), navigable with electric boats; 1944 pumped
dry and converted into an airplane factory). Service sector
predominates (about 83 % of all employees 1991), mainly personal
and social services (residential homes), manufacture of ribbons, some
summer tourism. - Classicist parish church (1831), extension 1959/60
by E. Boltenstern; Husarentempel monument (1813) by J. Kornhaeusel.
"Sparbach" nature and deer park with Johannstein ruins and mill.
