b. Weiz, Styria. Nov. 12, 1928, diplomat. Studied philosophy and law 
in Graz, joined the Foreign Service in 1957,1965-70 Embassy Secretary 
at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, 1970-75 Head of the Cabinet of 
the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, 1975-78 Austrian Ambassador 
to Spain, 1978-81 Austrian Ambassador to Moscow, 1981-87 
Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs, 1987-93 Executive Secretary of 
the  UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE).
