Hirschstetten, until 1904 independent village, 1904-1938 part of the 
21%%sup th/% , then of the 22%%sup nd/%  district of Vienna; before 
1240 princely fief; Hirschstetten Castle, built 1713-1724, 1945 
largely destroyed; castle chapel preserved (high altar painting by D. 
Gran); new parish church (1959-1961); reserve gardens and tree 
nurseries of the municipal authorities of Vienna.
