b. Innsbruck (Tyrol), March 16, 1924, physicist. From 1951 visiting 
scientist in Dublin, Cambridge, Paris, Sydney and Buenos Aires, 1960 
professor of theoretical physics at Vienna University of Technology; 
1987-1991 president of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Awarded the 
E. Schroedinger Prize by the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
