!!!Hochschülerschaft, Österreichische, ÖH

National Union of Students, Austrian, (Oesterreichische
Hochschuelerschaft, OeH), created 1945 as a corporation under public
law, represents all students (1993 a total of about 193,000 Austrians
and 22,000 non-Austrians were enrolled, including students enrolled at
more than one university) at the 18 Austrian universities. Compulsory
membership for all students was confirmed by an 80% majority in a 1991
vote. The organs of the OeH are elected every 2 years. The central
committee (65 delegates from currently 12 political groups) is the
supreme organ. It represents the students in contacts with the federal
ministries, political parties, social partners, etc. At the same time
every university has an OeH chief committee and every faculty an OeH
representative body. The various branches of study of a faculty are
represented by elected student committees. OeH representatives have a
co-determination right in the departmental conferences, the faculty
committees and in the curricular committee (supreme collegiate body at
all universities that are divided into faculties, all others have a
University Collegium).
