Hockey: The modern version of this game played with a ball and sticks 
with a curved end originated in England, played by both men and women, 
came to Austria in 1897; in 1900 the first hockey association in 
Austria established as a section of the Wiener Athletiksport-Club 
(WAC) sports club. At first played in the open air, hockey has also 
been played indoors since 1950; in 1963 the hockey stadium in the 
Vienna Prater was opened. The Austrian Hockey Association 
(Oesterreichischer Hockey-Verband, OeHV), founded in 1913, comprises 
20 clubs with 3,341 members (1993).
