b. Linz-Urfahr (Upper Austria), April 11, 1904, 
d. Bad Ischl (Upper Austria), July 9, 1983, economic historian. Member 
of the Institute of Austrian History Research, from 1927 worked in 
Upper Austrian provincial archives (1957 director); 1961 head of the 
commission for economic, business and city history at the Austrian 
Academy of Sciences; 1961-1974 university professor of business and 
economic history at Vienna University. Continuing the work of A.  
Dopsch, researched mainly the business and economic history of the 
early modern age. Editor of the Oesterreichisches Staedtebuch.
