Kitzbuehel, alt. 621 m, pop. 5,196, area 166.57 km%%sup 2/%, 
bi-seasonal tourism (414,856 overnight stays), centre of the Brixental 
valley. District court, forestry enterprise of the Oesterreichische 
Bundesforste AG, Salvista mountain railway leading up the Hohe Salve 
(1,828 m), electric power station, St. Marien nunnery, stud 
farm of the Noriker breeding association. 1,279 employed persons 
(1991), 57 % work in the service sector (commerce, restaurant 
business, personal, social, public services); manufacturing sector: 
leather factory, brickyard, medical equipment, saw-milling industry, 
steel construction industry. Baroque parish church (1758-64) with 
twin-tower façade and late-Gothic baptismal font; parish church 
in Kelchsau (1849/50); St. Elsbeth chapel (founded 1494, 
19%%sup th/%  century alterations); remains of Engelsberg 
fortress ruins (destroyed in the peasants´ war in 1526); houses 
on the market place (16%%sup th/%  century core); rural "Einhof" 
farm buildings.
