Chamber of Labour and Trade Union official, politician (Austrian 
Social Democratic Party, SPOe). Started her professional career at the 
BAWAG bank (1975-1994 chairwoman of central works council), 1989-1994 
chairwoman of the Union of Private Employees, 1991-1995 vice-president 
of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions (OeGB), 1994-1997 president 
of the Council of Austrian Chambers of Labour and the Vienna Chamber 
of Labour, 1989-1994,1996-1997 and 1999-2000 member of the 
Nationalrat. 1997-2000 Federal Minister of Labour, Health and Social 
Affairs.
