Huppert, Hugo, b. Bielsko Biala (Poland), June 5, 1902, 
d. Vienna, March 25, 1982, poet, narrative writer, culture 
critic, translator. After the burning down of the Ministry of Justice 
arrested as a member of the Communist Party in 1927, 1928 emigration 
to the Soviet Union. 1930 member of the Communist Party of the Soviet 
Union, 1938 imprisoned, 1939-1941 lecturer at the Maxim Gorki 
Institute. Returned to Vienna with the Soviet army in 1945. Wrote 
mainly sketches about his travels and a comprehensive autobiography 
(1976-1979), his writings are characterised by socialist realism. 
Translations from Russian (W. Mayakovski) and Old Georgian.
