Hyam, Johann, b. around 1733 Recles (United Kingdom), 
d. Vienna, May 1, 1816, artist, trick rider. Came to Vienna in 
1777 during his tour through Europe with his group of trick riders, 
acrobats and tightrope walkers; settled down in Vienna and opened the 
first permanent circus in Vienna, the "Royal Circuit", in 1780. In 
1784 was one of the first to try his skill at aviation (construction 
of a balloon with a basket which looked like a horse). As a member of 
the Freemasons' lodge, H. wrote the Masonic pantomime "Andomirams 
Tod". In 1797 he dissolved the circus and devoted himself to horse 
dealing.
