d. Paternkofel (Sesto Dolomites, South Tyrol), July 4, 1915, master 
sawyer, mountain guide, hotelier. Numerous first ascents (1890 north 
face of the Kleine Zinne); killed in World War I in the attempt to 
reconquer the Paternkofel.
