Irschen, Carinthia, municipality in the district of Spittal an der 
Drau, alt. 804 m, pop. 2,035, area 33.34 km%%sup 2/%, summer 
tourist resort (55,389 overnight stays) on the slope of the 
Kreuzeckgruppe mountains to the Oberdrautal valley. - Sports centre; 
construction industry, wood processing industry. - First documented 
mention 1081-1086 as "castrum Uorsen"; Romanesque-Gothic parish church 
(13%%sup th/% -15%%sup th/%  centuries) with murals (around 1330) and 
late Gothic winged altar-piece (16%%sup th/%  century). Waterfall on 
Moedritschbach stream.
