archbishop of Maronea and personal coadjutor of Cardinal T.  Innitzer, 
1952-1956 secretary of the bishops' conference, 1955 publication of 
the White Paper "Kirche und Staat" on behalf of the bishops' 
conference, 1972 dean of the Cathedral of Vienna and chancellor of the 
Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Vienna, 1969-1980 
vicar-general of the archdiocese of Vienna.
