Jagić, Vatroslav von, b. Varaždin (Croatia), July 6, 
1838, d. Vienna, Aug. 5, 1923, slavist, professor at the 
universities of Berlin, St. Petersburg and Vienna (1886-1908). 
Considered the founder of the modern study of Slavonic language and 
literature, editor of various magazines, above all of the magazine 
"Archiv fuer slavische Philologie".
