Jireček, Josef Konstantin, b. Vienna, July 24, 1854,
d. Vienna, Jan. 10, 1918, historian (study of Slavic languages
and literature). 1881/82 Minister of Education in Bulgaria
(organisation of the Bulgarian educational system), afterwards
professor at the University of Prague, from 1893 at the University of
Vienna, where he established the Department for Eastern European
History. Was one of the supranational thinkers of the Habsburg
monarchy.
