Jordan, Peter, b Sellrain, Tirol, Feb. 2, 1751, 
d. Vienna, July 6, 1827, pioneer of agricultural sciences in Austria; 
studied medicine and science at the universities of Goettingen and 
Vienna; from 1783 Professor of General Natural History in Vienna; 
pioneered a scientific approach to farming in Austria, was the first 
to lecture on the subject and greatly inspired his students. Appointed 
Director of the Imperial Estates at Voesendorf and Laxenburg in 1806, 
instrumental in the promotion of cattle breeding and the development 
of farming implements and machinery.
