!!!Journalistenausbildung

Journalists, Training of: As preparation for a career in journalism in
Austria, the University of Salzburg and the University of Vienna offer
courses of study in journalism and communication studies. A number of
other institutions offer private courses in journalism, both
introductory and for further training: the Catholic Academy of the
Media, the Friedrich Austerlitz Institute (supported by the Austrian
Social Democratic Party), the Friedrich Funder Institute (supported by
the Austrian People´s Party), and, in particular, the Committee
for Journalist Training (Kuratorium fuer Journalistenausbildung, KfJ)
in Salzburg, whose main programme consists in the 12-week Austrian
College of Journalism courses. Since 1992, the Austrian federal
government has sponsored these courses with about ATS 10 million in
Federal Press Promotion grants each year. Formal training in
journalism is not a prerequisite for a career in journalism in
Austria.
