Youth Hostels: Austrian youth hostels and guest houses for young 
people are organised under the "Oesterreichischer Jugendherbergsring", 
an organisation which includes two youth hostel associations: the 
Oesterreichischer Jugendherbergsverband (OeJHV, Austrian Youth Hostels 
Federation) and the Oesterreichisches Jugendherbergswerk. The main 
purpose of both associations is the promotion of hiking among young 
people as well as the construction and management of youth hostels. 
Valley and mountain youth hostels and mountain refuges run by the 
tourist associations are also available to members of the youth hostel 
associations. The 108 Austrian youth hostels have a capacity of 10,300 
beds (1,384,700 overnight stays in 1993).
