Justice, Ministry of, official name: Federal Ministry of Justice, 
highest judicial authority, followed Maria-Theresia´s "Oberste 
Justizstelle" ("highest judicial office") in 1848; housed in the 
former Trautson Palace (Vienna´s 1%%sup st/%  district). From 
1918-1920 and 1945 "State Office" 
("Staatsamt").1923-1927 headed by the respective  
Vice-Chancellor. The Ministry of Justice is responsible for: matters 
of civil law (private law, commercial law, copyright law, law of 
contract, cartel law, bankruptcy and equalisation law), consumer 
protection, matters of criminal law and media law, the organisation of 
civil and criminal jurisdiction, functions of the public 
prosecutor´s office, administration of justice, matters 
concerning lawyers and notary publics as well as their professional 
associations, and matters concerning the penal system.
