Koehlmeier, Michael (Johannes Maria), b. Hard (Vorarlberg), Oct. 
15, 1949), author. Gained acclaim from his very first novel "Der 
Peverl Toni und seine abenteuerliche Reise durch meinen Kopf" (1982). 
Further novels include "Moderne Zeiten" (1984) and "Spielplatz der 
Helden" (1988). His central theme is the relationship between fiction 
and reality. His novels "Telemach" (1995) and "Kalypso" (1997) are 
adaptations of Homeric myths. Gained great popularity with his 
story-like presentation of Greek myths on the Austrian radio. 
("Klassische Sagen des Altertums", parts I and III, 1995-1998, 15 
CDs). Rauris Prize for Literature, 1982, J. P. Hebel Prize, 1988, 
Anton Wildgans Prize, 1997.
