b.  Neufeld an der Leitha (Burgenland), May 26, 1908, 
d. Krems (Lower Austria), Feb. 20, 1985, electrical engineer. Studied 
physics and mathematics at the University of Vienna (doctoral thesis 
in 1932 with H.  Thirring), worked for Siemens & Halske company in 
Germany and Austria in 1933-49, focusing on microwave tubes. Professor 
of High Frequency Technology at Vienna University of Technology in 
1949-79. Research work especially on laser, plasma and semiconductor 
technology. Taught many important engineers.
