Karger, Karl, b. Vienna, Jan. 30, 1848, d. Vienna, Oct. 18,
1913, painter. Studied under C. von Blaas at the Vienna Academy of
Fine Arts and became assistant of E. von Engerth, with whom he worked
on the interior decoration of the Vienna State Opera. 1887-1908 taught
at the Vienna school of arts and Crafts. Created ceiling paintings,
sgraffiti and frescoes in academic style for numerous buildings of the
Vienna Ringstrasse boulevard (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Burgtheater,
Museum of Applied Art).
