Kaser, Max, b. Vienna, April 21, 1906, d. Ainring (Germany), 
Jan. 13, 1997, legal expert. Studied in Graz, 1931 habilitation 
in Giessen (in Roman and civil law); university professor in Muenster 
from 1933 and in Hamburg 1959-1970; 1971-1976 honorary professor at 
the University of Salzburg. Regarded as one of the leading experts on 
Roman law worldwide. Awarded the Austrian Decoration for Science and 
Art in 1971.
