!!!Katalysatorpflicht

Catalytic Converters, Compulsory Use of: Since January 1, 1987
catalytic converters have been compulsory on all new cars with more
than 1,500 cm%%sup 3/%; since January 1, 1988 they have been
compulsory for all new cars with petrol engines. Catalytic converters
have a ceramic matrix with catalytically active precious metals
(platinum or rhodium) that reduce the carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and
nitrogen oxide contents of the exhaust gases. The compulsion to use
unleaded petrol is a further contribution to reducing environmental
pollution. Since January 1, 1995 the tax on motor vehicles for cars
without catalytic converters has been increased.
