Katholische Hochschulgemeinden (Catholic University Communities) 
founded in 1945, are centres of pastoral care for university students 
and for all persons working in the university sector. The Katholische 
Hochschuljugend and other Catholic student associations are open to 
all Catholic students in Austria. University cafeterias and student 
hostels have been established by the Katholische Hochschulgemeinden; 
these centres also organise readings, lectures, exhibitions, and a 
broad range of courses and charitable projects.
