Kitzbuehel Alps, range of the Eastern Alps in Tirol and Salzburg, part
of the greywacke zone, gentle rounded ridges, Alpine meadows with
gentle cirque forms, mostly sandstone and slate, limestone and
dolomite rock formations; extending from the Ziller Valley in the west
to Lake Zeller See in the east, highest peak: Kreuzjoch 2,558 m;
economically important pasture land and famous skiing area, the
Kitzbuehel Alps are divided by the Kitzbueheler Ache river into two
sections: Glemmtal Alps in the east (province of Salzburg) and the
Kelchsau Alps in the west; important peaks: Westl. Salzachgeier
(2,469 m), Grosser Rettenstein (2,366 m), Geissstein
(2,363 m), Wildseeloder (2,118 m), Galtenberg
(2,424 m), Hohe Salve (1,828 m), Hahnenkamm (1,712 m)
and Schmittenhoehe (1,965 m).
