Klein, Melanie, b. Vienna, March 30, 1882, d. London (United 
Kingdom), Sept. 22, 1960, psychoanalyst. Came from a liberal Jewish 
family, studied art and history in Vienna, read S.  Freud and 
underwent an analysis with S. Ferenczi. In 1917 started working with 
children, practised in 1921 in Berlin (under K. Abraham) and went to 
England after successful lectures for the British Psychoanalytical 
Society. Influenced European and South American psychoanalysis.
