b. Graz, Styria, Jan. 23, 1930, d. Graz, Sep. 11, 2018, jazz musician, trombone player. Law 
graduate, devoted himself exclusively to jazz from 1958, founded the 
Erich Kleinschuster sextet in 1965. Was instrumental in establishing 
jazz departments in the music universities of Graz (1965), Vienna 
(1969) and Klagenfurt (1985). 1971-81 head of the Production 
Department/ Light Music at the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation 
(ORF), produced numerous radio and television programmes. 1981-96 
headed the improvisation class of the Jazz Department of the Graz 
University of Music.
