b. Vienna, June 4, 1947, manager and politician (SPOe, Austrian Social 
Democratic Party). 1969-1992 in the OMV (Austrian Petroleum Company). 
From 1992-1996 Federal Minister of Public Industries and Transport, 
1996-1997 Federal Minister of Finance, from 1997-2000 Federal 
Chancellor and chairman of the  Sozialdemokratische Partei 
Oesterreichs (also for brief periods in 1994, 1996 and from 
1999-2000). Since 2000 president of VW Argentina.
