Knapp, Johann, b. Vienna, Sept. 5, 1778, 
d. Vienna, Feb. 9, 1833, painter of floral motifs and still life. 
Designed patterns for the Vienna Wallpaper Manufactory, from 1804 
royal painter (Kammermaler*) to Archduke Anton Viktor, for whom he 
executed numerous drawings of domestic and exotic plants in the "Dutch 
garden" of Schoenbrunn Palace. For Archduke Johann he painted a 
collection of more than 300 alpine plants and a collection of natural 
rose families. Noted particularly for the minute detail of his work.
