Knoller, Martin, b. Steinach am Brenner (Tyrol), Nov. 8, 1725, 
d. Milan (Italy), July 24, 1804, painter of historical paintings and 
portraits, student of P.  Troger at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, 
from 1755 in Rome, turned to classicism under the influence of 
A. R. Mengs, 1793 taught at the Milan Academy of Fine Arts.

Ceiling frescoes in Bolzano (South Tyrol), Neresheim, Ettal 
(both Germany), Anras, Volders, at the Palais Fugger in Innsbruck (all 
in Tyrol); altarpieces in Steinach (Styria), Anras, Untermieming (both 
Tyrol).
