Koffler, Andreas, b. Krems (Lower Austria), 1603, d. Kuangsi 
(China), Dec. 12, 1651 (murdered), Jesuit and missionary to China 
(from 1640). His knowledge of mathematics and astronomy earned him 
great esteem at the Imperial Court of Ming; was commissioned to draw 
up the Chinese calendar.
