b. Menzelen (Germany), Feb. 8, 1886, 
d. Vienna, Jan. 23, 1961, ethnologist, priest of the missionary order 
Societas Verbi Divini. University professor in Vienna, established the 
University Department of Ethnology. 1921/22 expedition to Tierra del 
Fuego (together with M. Gusinde), and 1938/39 to Central India. Lived 
in Switzerland 1940-1945.
