b. Graz (Styria), Aug. 17, 1921, art historian. 1953-1961 worked at 
the Joanneum Graz (1958 Director of the "Neue Galerie" gallery); 
1962-1986 Director of the  Albertina in Vienna; designed important 
exhibitions (Albrecht Duerer, 200 years Albertina, Maria Theresia and 
her time).
