Kreis, Der (The Circle), theatre project launched by G.  Tabori in the 
Vienna "Schauspielhaus" theatre, lasted from 1987 to 1990; in contrast 
to the "middle-class" theatres (jocularly referred to as "cathedrals") 
Der Kreis presented theatre in a new aesthetic and social context 
("catacombs"). It became the symbol of ensemble cooperation without 
hierarchy and for continuing artistic work.
