Kreisler, Fritz, b. Vienna, Feb. 2, 1875, d. New York (USA),
Jan. 29, 1962, violin virtuoso. Studied under J. Hellmesberger jr.,
composed operettas ("Apfelblueten", 1919; "Sissy", 1932), numerous
cadences, arrangements and works "in the old style" (a musical
experiment of this kind caused the Vivaldi renaissance). Lived in New
York 1915-1925, then in Berlin and 1933-1939 in Paris, returned to New
York in 1940.
