Kriehuber, Josef, b. Vienna, Dec. 14, 1800, d. Vienna, May 
30, 1876, portrait and landscape painter, lithographer. First trained 
by his brother Johann K., studied at the Vienna Academy under H. 
Maurer, then moved to Galicia, where he devoted himself to horse 
painting; lithographer for several Viennese publishing houses, with 
3,000 works he was the most important portrait lithographer of the 
Viennese Biedermeier period. Also noted for his studies of the Prater 
park. Taught at the Vienna Theresianum academy.
