Crime Statistics: The Federal Ministry of the Interior publishes 
criminal statistics every year. Offences against property make up 
about 30%, intentional crimes of violence about 7% of all criminal 
offences. The number of detected offences doubled from 1953 to 1992 
(more than 500,000 in 1992). In nearly half of all cases suspects 
could be seized. In the case of common offences such as burglary it is 
often difficult to find the perpetrators, whereas more than 90% of all 
cases of murder are solved.
