Kuefstein, Count Franz von, b. Kassel (Germany), June 11, 1841, 
d. Viehofen Palace (St. Poelten, Lower Austria), Dec. 31, 
1918, politician. Attempted to find a solution to the social problems 
of his time in the spirit of Christian social reform. Was one of the 
authors of the encyclical "Rerum novarum" of Pope 
Leo XIII and supported the  Christian Socialist Movement in 
Vienna; 1887 was made a life member of the Upper Chamber of the 
Reichsrat.
