Cultural Monuments (building complexes, individual objects, technical 
monuments), sculptures, paintings and printed works of artistic or 
cultural value. Their definition and preservation are governed by the 
law on monument protection and various provincial laws.

The book "Die Kunstdenkmaeler Oesterreichs" (Austria's Monuments of 
Art) is published by the Section for Monument Research (former 
Institute for Austrian Art Research) of the  Bundesdenkmalamt and 
appears as a set of publications called "Dehio manual" (started in 
1933 by D. Frey, continued by K.  Ginhart). Since 1976 the updated 
editions of these art guides have been published separately for each 
province.
