Kuwasseg (also known as Kuwasegk), Josef, b. Trieste (Italy), 
Nov. 25, 1799, d. Graz (Styria), March 19, 1859, landscape 
painter, lithographer and writer. Lived in Graz from 1809, trained at 
the Corporate Drawing Academy (Staendische Zeichnungsakademie). Called 
"Styrian Alt" (after R. von Alt, the most significant Austrian painter 
of town views in the 19th cent.); numerous Styrian landscape paintings 
and town views of Graz, lithographic series "Ansichten vom Grazer 
Schlossberg ("Views of the Schlossberg in Graz" 1810) and "Ansichten 
aus der Steiermark" ("Views from Styria" (1841-1850).
