b. Vienna, Sept. 13, 1941, biologist, from 1986 Professor at the 
University of Salzburg, since 1969 committed to environmental 
protection, opposed amongst other things the plans to build a bridge 
across Lake Neusiedl and the Hainburg power plant. Founded the 
Institute for Environmental Sciences and Environmental Protection. 
From 1986 onwards President of the National Park Danube Wetlands 
Institute. Since 1994 General Manager of the Museum of Natural 
History, Vienna.
