alt. 441 m, pop. 7,968, area 32.46 km%%sup 2/%. Industrial 
centre on the Traun river, north of Gmunden. Health insurance agency. 
School: vocational school for paper industry workers. 
Gmunden-Laakirchen airfield. Gymnasium, recreation centre for 
blue-collar workers. Gmoes in Rahstorf mud-bath. Around 76 % of 
4,436 employed people (1991) work in processing industries: paper 
industry (Laakirchen and Steyrermuehl), covers for paper rolls, 
machine-building and structural steel engineering (e.g.: special 
computer-controlled machines, engines). - Parish church in late Gothic 
style with an interesting combination of a single-pillar hall combined 
with a 3- aisle hall.
