!!!Laib Laibl, Leib, Conrad

Laib (Laibl, Leib), Conrad, b. (probably) Enslingen (Germany) around 1410, 
d. after 1460, painter. His early works, painted around 1440, show the 
influence of traditional Salzburg painting, although L.´s 
residence in Salzburg was not established until 1448 -1457. Most 
important Austrian exponent of early realism, influenced by upper 
Italian and Bohemian painting, great influence on the following 
generation of artists in Salzburg. (e.g. R.   Frueauf d. Ae.).

crucifixion altar in Vienna (1449, Oesterreichische Galerie 
Belvedere); high altar picture of Graz Cathedral (1457, now in the 
Diocesan Museum Graz); altar for Ptuj (Slovenia, around 1460/65, State 
Museum Ptuj); Saints Hermes und Primus (Salzburg Museum Carolino 
Augusteum). - Ascribed to him: frescoes at the triumphal arch of the 
Franziscan Church, Salzburg
