!!!Lamberg, Adelsfamilie

Lamberg, noble family originally from Carinthia and Carniola; with 
estates in Upper Austria (Steyr) and Lower Austria (Ottenstein). The 
family produced a number of bishops; under the Habsburgs, the L. held 
military offices, were civil servants or at court. The family split 
into different lines, some of which were made imperial barons and 
imperial counts. Leopold Matthias became imperial prince in 1707. The 
main lines (Steyr/Ottenstein) died out in 1931, one of the collateral 
branches is still in existence. Prominent members of the family 
included Count Franz  Lamberg, Count Johann Maximilian  Lamberg and 
Count Anton Franz de Paula  Lamberg-Sprinzenstein.
