!!!Landammann
Landammann (Alemannic form of "Amtsmann"), old title which still
exists in Switzerland today. It was used in Vorarlberg until 1806. The
Landammann was the highest official of the "Niedergerichte" (lower
courts) of the domains (Bregenz, Feldkirch, Neuburg, Bludenz) in
Vorarlberg, as the highest judge, had the judicial power over life and
death and the prerogative of mercy. Chairman of the councillors and
deputies in the legislature ( Bezegg Pass). The Landammann in
Vorarlberg was elected every year, later every second year. Abolished
when Vorarlberg came under Bavarian rule.
